Well Being Check

At Accolade Home Care, we care about the well-being of everyone. So we wanted an extra way to provide support to people outside of the home care and companions we provide, so we made a well-being check!

Getting out and about

Going outside on walks is a great way to keep active and healthy, ensuring you get even at least 10 minutes outside daily is a great step forward.

Attending local coffee mornings is a great way to socialise and meet new people, this can help you avoid that lonely feeling!

Remember to drink and eat nutritious foods

Be mindful of what you are eating, ensure that the foods you eat are providing you with the right number of vitamins, An ideal diet should be low in saturated fat, with lots of fruit and vegetables, wholegrains, oily fish, and small amounts of low-fat dairy and lean meat.

Dehydration is one of the biggest causes of tiredness, especially if you are a particularly active person, it can also lead to confusion, it is recommended to keep on top of your water intake, you can also have, teas and fruit juices but try to avoid fizzy drinks, as the caffeine in them can lead to an energy crash.

Vitamin Food Chart

Utilise your doctors

You should arrange for routine tests for blood pressure and cholesterol levels, High readings increase your risk factor for stroke and heart disease but any problems are completely reversible with medication.

Ensure you are getting enough Vitamin D

Most people are unaware that they have a Vitamin D deficiency, it is estimated that over half of the adult population are affected by this. Vitamin D deficiency has been linked to cognitive impairment, bone problems and also cardiovascular disease.

Ensure you are getting outside in the sunshine for at least 15-20 minutes a day for a vitamin D boost. It can also be found in food such as eggs and oily fish. Alternatively, talk to your doctor about a vitamin D supplement.

Have a regular sleep schedule

Although it can be tempting to stay up and wake up late, it is much better for your well-being to have a regular sleeping pattern, this can reduce tiredness and increase mental wall-being.

Another thing that an irregular sleeping pattern can lead to is insomnia, but by cutting down on daytime naps, establishing a bedtime routine and going to bed at the same time each night, you can easily avoid this.

We recommend a warm drink such as chamomile tea or hot milk before you go to bed.

Test yourself regularly

Aging can affect your hearing and eyesight, so it is always good to take regular tests to stay on top of these and be able to get either glasses or additional eyesight support and hearing aids to mitigate the affect this can have on your life.
